Emulating the bold statement that famed automotive designer Gordon Buehrig made with his 1936 Auburn Boat Tail Speedster, AuburnJames showcases its immensely popular proprietary blend "SPEEDSTER." As its namesake ghosted on the label, this winemaker selection is a powerful, complex, and sophisticated wine. This wine is a nod to a time past when weekends included an open-air drive into the countryside with close friends for rich wine and fire-grilled alfresco cuisine, stimulated by a powerful core with unparalleled styling.

As with the most popular of our prior Speedster vintages, our 2016 continues to be a sumptuous blend based upon the powerful yet elegant Petit Verdot, backed by luscious Cabernet Sauvignon and supple Merlot. Big, bold, and balanced! Layer after layer, hedonistic flavors of dark berries await your palate with vanilla, cedar, chocolate, and black pepper showing undertones of grilled meats and a slightly gamey quality with a hint of black currant leaf. The tannins are deliciously gripping yet supple, round, and well-balanced with an astute richness, leading into a long lingering finish.

Just 271 cases were produced in 2016. Speedster was designed to pair well with most hearty meals with and is a favorite with grilled meats. This vintage is an excellent dinner wine!
